Dave’s Lounge #198: The Train and the Jacket

I know it’s been a while since my last episode, and I thank you for your patience. This week, I’m in something of a sharing mood. I talk first about what I want to happen to me after I’m gone — which I hope won’t be for quite some time, really — and then about a dream I had recently that’s been bothering me. Chime in on the comments if you have any idea what those dream symbols might mean…

Dave’s Lounge #198: The Train and the Jacket — 11 Comments

  1. The train is obviously a phallic symbol since I’m sure there was a tunnel just down the tracks which is why you were so eager not to miss it. Therefore the jacket must symbolize the RailHawks losing in the finals or maybe your mother. I’m not sure yet. Find a late night taco truck, take a couple of burritos before bed then call me in the morning.

    Next!

  2. I love this episode. Interesting intro… talking about death is taboo to a lot of people, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to think or talk about sometimes. What an awesome, uplifting, life-affirming message! It takes a lot of fear and mystery away when death is looked at as part of a natural cycle. I think a toast to life and love, music, math, language, football and consciousness is a great send-off for anyone and something we should think about more often.

Good luck figuring out your dream. I’m sure the symbols mean something much different to you than they would to me. And I am now in love with Tang Kai, so thanks for that as well.

  3. Wonderfull Intro, very refexive, deep, and well focoused.

  5. Hi Dave,

I only discover your podcast last September. I really enjoy your podcast, the musics and your comments arround track. I didn’t find anything which I didn’t like in your 5 years archive. It’s nice to see a new episode arrive.
Keep the good work, thank you, it’s a great podcast. I love it and I have a big respect for your work and dedication.

  6. Hi Dave. Great episode – as always.

Don’t worry about the dream: dreams are only symbolic if you’re a strict Freudian psychoanalyst.

And if you are a strict Freudian psychoanalyst: you can afford a new jacket.

  7. Dave-
Your intro to this show goes to the heart of what this life is and should be.
Would it be possible to find a written transcript of this intro which others could read? (I’d link to it on my photo site blog, as if THAT was an incentive).
And Dave…take all the time you want between shows. We who listen understand. Just make it less than three weeks……..I go into withdrawal.

  8. Another great mix. Thanks!

Re: the dream. As you have figured out, most things in a dream are symbols of something else, and they don’t always symbolize the same things for everyone, because your dream is coming from your brain, not from someone else’s brain. The starting point is to ask, HOW DID I FEEL when the event(s) in the dream happened? Once you figure out the answer to that question/those questions, you have a better chance to figure out what your brain is trying to tell you about yourself.
