Dave's Lounge On The Radio #61

Dave’s Lounge To Close at the End of 2017

“Welcome to Dave’s Lounge, your place to chill, no matter where you are.”

Those are words that I’ve used to introduce the Dave’s Lounge podcast, and later the radio show, for years. The idea behind those words has been that this “place” I call the lounge is a place that travels with you in your mind. Just put on a pair of earbuds and press play, and you can come inside, listen to some good music, and just relax for a while.

For more than 12 years, I’ve done my best to supply you with that music, and while doing so, I always said to myself that as soon as this begins to feel too much like work — like a chore that I have to do, rather than something I really want to do, I would let it go.

I believe that time is here. I’ve decided to bring Dave’s Lounge, both the radio show and the podcast, to a close. The final broadcast on WHUP will be the 2017 Yearbook, which will air on Sunday, December 17.

While it might seem like this decision is coming out of the blue, it’s actually something I’ve debated for a while, because this show has changed my life for the better. It’s introduced me to new friends, new bands, and lots of little moments and connections in my life that I might have otherwise missed. It’s hard to walk away from that, even though I’ve come close multiple times over the last few years. Nevertheless, I feel it’s time for me to shift my focus to other projects, and to start making much more of my own music, which I’ve been sorely neglecting over the last decade or so.

I know that many long-time listeners will be disappointed with this decision, and I thank all of you for the support you’ve given to me and to this show over the years. Still, I feel this is the right decision for me at this time, and I hope you understand why I’ve chosen now as the right time to move.

Will I ever return to radio or podcasting? It’s certainly possible. I know I won’t stop being a DJ; RDU Blues has supported me very well in this regard. Perhaps I’ll continue sharing mixes on Mixcloud in the future. If you do want to keep up with what I plan to do in 2018 and beyond, keep an eye on this web site, on the Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/daveslounge), and on the Facebook feed (https://facebook.com/davesloungepodcast). I’ll be sure to let anyone who’s interested know what I’m up to.

It’s been quite the adventure. I hope all of you enjoy these last few shows.
