Dave’s Lounge #150: The Defunct Bands Episode

(This episode almost didn't make it out tonight. I upgraded to a newer, faster hard drive last week and did a clean reinstall of Windows XP and all my software, including my new copy of Sonar Home Studio 7 — which still crashed on me for no apparent reason. It calmed down after the initial crash, though, so hopefully it won't give me any more trouble than that. I'm still tweaking the audio settings on my voiceovers. It was a little softer than it should have been in this episode, so I'll try to fix that later…)

This sort of a milestone episode, number 150, but I didn't want to make too big a fuss about it, especially since the 4th anniversary of this podcast is just a month and half away. Still, I wanted to do something a little different this week, so I decided to go digging in the virtual crates in search of a theme. Along the way, I found a lot of really good tunes from bands that aren't active anymore. I thought I might share some of those works with you here. After all, it would be a shame if some of these songs were completely lost to history…

Dave’s Lounge #150: The Defunct Bands Episode — 7 Comments

  1. Ventzi: Turns out Rom DiPrisco decided to shut down the project because he was having more fun and making more money working on video game soundtracks. He decided to focus on that rather than Bitstream Dream.

I still think it’s a shame that he took all that music off the web, though. It’s not like it was hurting anyone to keep it out there for people’s listening pleasure.

  2. funny, dave. i was just thinking about some of those old songs from defunct bands and wondering if i should podcast some of them or not. i was thinking maybe i’d start paying for my old live365 account again so i could throw them all up on that stream.

and i totally agree with you about bitstream dream. i am kicking myself that i didn’t get physical cds from rom when i had the chance. at one point he was offering home burned cds of his entire back catalog! argh…

  3. Loved The DBC, and kikiwest. Is there really no way to get these out of print CDs? A secret link or something;)

Seriously. A shame if we’re not able to hear the rest of what these guys offer.

    Send me a tweet Dave – @yickth
