Dave’s Lounge #298: Orchestral Maneuvers

Dave's Lounge Music Podcast #298In case you missed my live set in Philadelphia last weekend, visit my Mixcloud page — http://mixcloud.com/daveslounge — where you'll be able to stream a recording I made of that set. Again, there are some copyright issues that prevent me from including some of those live sets in the podcast feed. I might be able to include them on Soundcloud in the future, but we'll see.

Two of the artists I featured in that set lead of this week's show, which has a bigger, more orchestral vibe than what you might usually hear on this podcast. Then again, sometimes you never know what you might hear when I'm DJing…

Dave's Lounge #298

DJX Weekend Live Set Now On Mixcloud

As you fly into Philadelphia, you can see the thick grey smoke rising from the power plants on the river, even in the dead of night. Urban renewal and urban decay live side by side everywhere you look. It's a hardscrabble city that demands more from its residents than any part of America really should.

Dave's Lounge GlassAnd I can't stop loving the place.

I mean, look at this whiskey glass. Benjamin Chou, who's been part of the Philadelphia blues and fusion dance scenes for a while now, laser-etched this bad boy and presented it to me on Friday, the night of my 2:00 AM set at DJX Fusion Weekend. How awesome is that? He made special glasses for several other mutual friends of ours, too. The DJX crew and the dancers in Philly are wonderful people, and I am both happy to call them friends and grateful that they offered me the opportunity to come and play some tunes at their event again this year.

Because this mix contains some major label tunes, I am unable to make it available on the podcast feed, but I can post it to Mixcloud. This was played and recorded live using Traktor DJ for the iPad, and it's presented here, warts and all. There are a few similarities toward the end between this mix and my Shakori Hills Recess mix from last September, mostly because there wasn't much overlap between those two crowds. The first 10 minutes got a great response from the crowd; they might get you up and dancing, too.

Here's the set list:

1.) Ana Popovic, “Mo' Better Love (feat. Tommy Sims)”
2.) Marian Hill, “Whisky”
3.) Blackstreet, “No Diggity”
4.) Chet Faker, “Terms And Conditions”
5.) Andreya Triana, “Lost Where I Belong”
6.) Submotion Orchestra, “Trust / Lust”
7.) Marina Quaisse, “8th of July”
8.) Alice Russell, “I'm The Man That Will Find You”
9.) Tori Amos, “Sugar”
10.) Feist, “Brandy Alexander”
11.) Alina Baraz & Galimatias, “Pretty Thoughts”
12.) Moloko, “Statues”
13.) Lovespirals, “Feels So Good (Yumenomado's Film Noir Mix)”
14.) Motif, “One More Time (feat. Naemi Joy)”

Enjoy! And thanks again for the great times, Philadelphia!
